The impact of power outages.

Internet
When the power’s out, KOHLER keeps your WiFi on when you need it most.
Food
During a blackout, your food is the first thing to go. Homeowners can lose between $250-$500 worth of food in an outage.
Water
If you’re on well water, you can’t shower or flush the toilet. And no sump pump means you could spend thousands on a flooded basement.
Heat/AC
Your HVAC keeps your family comfortable and your home protected. When you have heat and A/C, everybody's happy.
Cell Phone
Is there any device more important to us? When your phone runs out, so do your options.
TV
Why miss your favorite show, movie or sports event? No matter when weather strikes, Kohler can power all of your entertainment.
That gives us peace of mind having the KOHLER generator. There's always going to be comfort in this house.
- David S.
We were without power for five days, but we just lived our life. I am just so grateful.
- Susie B.

I looked at a couple of different brands and decided Kohler was, by far, the best.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a generator?

A standby home generator keeps your power on during an outage. It’s installed outside your house (like an AC unit) and comes on automatically, whether you’re at home or away. KOHLER generators come on within 10 seconds of a power outage, ensuring you’re never in the dark.

Home generators run on propane or natural gas, so there’s no refueling necessary.

Why do I need a generator?

If you’ve ever lost power, you know how helpless you can feel. No matter what causes your electricity to go out, a KOHLER generator ensures power outages don’t interrupt your life.

When the electricity goes out in your area, a standby generator kicks on in seconds to provide power to your home. This allows you to live your life no matter how long the outage lasts. It also allows you to stay connected by powering your wifi and devices, saves food that would have otherwise gone bad in an unpowered refrigerator and freezer, keeps your sump pump running, and so much more.

What is the difference between a portable and standby?

Portable generators can be purchased at big box hardware stores. Most portable generators run on gasoline and can burn through 10-20 gallons per day of use. Homeowners must be careful when setting up, refilling, and running extension cords to/from a portable generator since not following instructions can be dangerous. They have to be started manually, something that may be difficult or even impossible during or after a storm.

Standby generators are permanently installed outside of your home. They run on natural gas or liquid propane gas, which you do not have to manually refill and does not require extension cords to power your home. A standby generator turns on within seconds of a power outage, giving you almost uninterrupted power.

How much does a generator cost?

The cost of your new generator will depend on several factors: the model you choose, the size of your home, how much of your home you’d like to power, and what installation entails. Your Kohler representative will be able to give you a price range during your consultation.

What is the warranty?

For a limited time, you can receive a 7 year extended warranty on your KOHLER generator. Visit your nearest Menard's for details.

What is an Automatic Transfer Switch?

When the power fails or drops below an acceptable level (brownout), your automatic transfer switch (ATS) signals the generator to start. In just 10 seconds, the ATS transfers your power from the grid to the generator, fueled by your home’s natural gas or liquid propane system.

An automatic transfer switch is the brain behind your home generator system. During an outage, it automatically transfers power from the utility to your generator. When utility power is restored, the ATS turns off your generator and returns your home’s power to the utility grid.
